Cassava Latin Rhythms

Cassava is a group of Latin musicians based in Toronto who perform musical styles and rhythms from many areas of Latin America. The music reflects the colour and flavor of Latin styles such as Salsa, Bolero and Cha-cha-cha from Cuba, Bossa Nova and Samba from Brazil, Cumbia from Colombia and contemporary Latin-Jazz.

Cassava's colourful performances at festivals, clubs and special events involve audience participation and never fail to keep the crowd moving to the infectious Latin rhythms. We make the whole audience participate and feel like a part of the show.

Since 1997 Cassava has been performing at various festivals such as Ritmo y Color Latin Festival at Toronto's Harbourfront, Northern LightsFestival in Sudbury, Niagara, Barrie's Kempenfest, Hamilton Jazz Festival and the Taste of The Danforth in Toronto. In August 2000, we took part in Ritmo Latino, a series of Latin music concerts at Harbourfront, Toronto.

As well, we have maintained regular engagements at clubs and restaurants such as Mövenpick, Marché,Louisiana, Snug Harbour, Sharkey's and Christina’s in Toronto, in addition to a busy schedule of private functions.

Parallel to our performances, Cassava gives frequent rhythm & dance workshops and demonstrations to students at the school and university level; working with professional artists specialized in hot Latin styles.

We also explain the different rhythms used in the music we perform. We are always pleased to give people the opportunity to learn more about Latin music, and to show the differences between the various styles.
